The Locust - The Locust (EP). 7” EP. Clear Blue. 3rd Pressing.
I have a lot of favorite bands that I truly love but some favorite bands stay your favorites because they changed everything for you. The Locust are the main reason I got into Grindcore/Powerviolence/etc. They were seriously the fastest band I had heard at the time. It was addictive. I wanted more and more. The Locust are very hard to staple a genre on. The Locust is what you would get if you got Devo to play Crossed Out songs. Noisecore isn’t a genre I like to pun on bands but thats the only way I can describe The Locust.
Here are some of my favorite Locust tracks. Different versions of some appear on the full length. Dave Astors drums are just pounding. Justin Pearson’s shriek -y screaming voice is one of the main reasons I love this band. JP ain’t your typical tough, rough, cave man vocals. Its loud and annoying, the way I love it. Of course everyone loves the keyboards/synths. They’re fucking crazy on this. Besides JP’s vocals its his insane fucked stream-of - consciousness lyrics. The Locust are a strange band that you either love or hate ,but this EP is still one of my favorite releases from them. My favorite songs off this were Head Hits Concrete,Hairspray Suppository,Cattle Mutilation,Kill roger Hedgecock, and Halfway to a Worthless Ideal Arrangement (An Interlude to a Discontinued Sarcastic Harmony… Yea Whatever). The song titles are just as great as the lyrics. Pick this up(or anything by them). I hope you love it and keep replaying it over n over like I do. Fall, fucking fall. This measurement of shit. There was no request. So much time, but the cake has been eaten.
